What We've Been Learnin'
Hey! no one has claimed the electric toothbrush yet. Jump in and respond to the blog and we'll get you set up with one of the best products on the market at no cost to you.
The title of this entry is "What We've Been Learnin'. " I enjoy going to continuing education because I feel if you're not constantly learning, parts of you are starting to die off. Here's what courses I've been attending lately:
In May I completed a 96 hour Mini-Residency through the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain. I travelled four 3 day weekends over 9 months spent at the American Airlines National Training Center at the airport in Dallas. Basically sequestered in the middle of nowhere between Dallas and Fort Worth, we spent hours on learning proper head and neck, and TMJ exams, head and neck gross anatomy with cadaver heads and how to give injections through out the head and neck region for the relief of pain and that was just in the first 2 sessions.
To me, one of the most interesting topics was in the last session in May. I have sleep apnea and one whole day was dedicated to how my profession can help those with sleep disorders. Since last winter, the standard of care for treating mild to moderate sleep apnea is with an intraoral device made by your dentist. Also many patients don't tolerate a C-PAP well and the intra oral device can allow them to be treated comfortably. We work in conjuntion with the patient's doctor to be assured that the highest level of care is maintained. Sleep apnea is not a condition to be taken lightly. It contributed to the death of one of the greatest NFL defensive ends ever; The "Minister of Defense", Hall of Famer Reggie White. As I continue studying sleep disorders, I hope to be able to treat many of my patients that would benefit from our services.
Just this past weekend I completed course work to do mini-implants. My main focus will be to help those with lower full dentures that float all over and are uncomfortable and embarrassing. Mini-implants in the lower jaw are an immediate and less costly option to conventional root form implants. Most of the time,we will use your current lower denture and incorporate the implant, allowing you to leave with a stable denture that day. As with all potential treatments, there are guidelines as to who is a candidate for mini-implants. Please feel free to call our office to set up a "no cost" evaluation to see if you could benefit from the mini- implants system.
Now after taking all this continuing education, I'm really up for my one week of vacation. We have a time share in a sunny location and I'm gonna sit by the pool, eat, take a nap then repeat for an entire week.
I'll be back in the office on June 23rd seeing patients and getting ready for our big Community Appreciation Event on the 27th of June. Please take this as an invitation to join us for a bunch of food, fun and give aways and get a chance to dunk me and a few of the gals in a dunk tank that night.
Please feel free to comment and if you're the first to comment since the start of the blog, you win a state of the art electric tooth brush.
All my best wishes,
Doc Rob
